Jerry Davis

Jerry Davis is currently celebrating his 24th year in the music industry.  His career in music began as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley.  As an undergraduate, Jerry worked in the campus concerts promotions department, and interned at KALX radio station while managing a local heavy metal band, RISK.  Jerry, along with band members opened a local rehearsal facility for other bands in order to defray their own rehearsal and recording costs.  As a result, several other local artists rented the facilities on a regular basis and a business was established.  The most notable client was a local group desperate for attention called Metallica. The rehearsal facility is still in operation today.

After college, and feeling limited in the Bay Area, Jerry relocated to Los Angeles where his career really began to flourish and sparked a flurry of tremendous experiences.  Jerry’s first fulltime job was as an assistant music publisher for Famous Music, a division of Paramount Pictures.  He simultaneously volunteered his services at the The National Academy of Songwriters (NAS).  After a brief stint with Capitol Records as a marketing representative, Jerry was recruited to work with songwriters and publishers at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), serving as a Director of Repertoire for Urban Music.

The ASCAP appointment was significant for various reasons; an educational seminar was launched by Jerry which is still a major part of his association with the creative community especially with urban and hip/hop music.  It was also significant because at the time of the appointment, West Coast rap music was in its infancy and was poised to generate international attention.  Jerry became one of its early pioneers.  Artists such as Cypress Hill, NWA, Tone Loc, Ice-T, Too Short, Brian McKnight, The House of Pain, Kid Frost, and Tony, Toni, Tone all gravitated to his side and to ASCAP, due to the buzz surrounding educational seminars he had helped them launch.

As a result of his success at ASCAP, major record labels and music publishers became very interested in Jerry’s exclusive services.  He soon established a distribution deal with Interscope Records and formed a boutique label, Poetic Groove Records.  After producing a few albums with Interscope and eventually moving the label to Motown Records, the label folded, just as several other hip-hop labels had done.

Jerry’s next stop was as a manager working with One Nation Management, a label focused on the management of producers. The flagship producer was Keith Crouch; Brandy, Tamia, Tevin Campbell, and Bebe and Cece Winans.

For the last nine years Jerry has served as The Music Supervisor at Fox Sports / Fox Sports Net (News Corp).  Here, Jerry has had the opportunity to work with the likes of Eminem, Rick Ross, Queen, Ziggy Marley, Ice Cube, Snoop Dog, Queen Latifah, Motley Crue and Rage Against the Machine.  He has placed music within several World Series’, The NBA Playoffs, The Superbowl and countless baseball, hockey, basketball, football, collegiate events and national shows.  Jerry also assists with the music needs of various other News Corp entities; including Fox Sports Net, Fox Sports World, Fox Sports International, F/X, and The Speed Channel.
