Demo Derby
We have some of our special panelists sitting in on the infamous Demo Derby. Each morning you need to drop a cd off with a specific track at the Dfest registration. In the MusiCares Ballroom C, Friday at 4:30p and Saturday at 4:45p we have hour and 15 minute sessions where your song will be played for approximately the first minute and then they will share their first impressions and opinions about your song, songwriting, production, etc. and what kind of response you would typically get from the industry to your music.
At least one member of your act or the acting manager must be present in order to participate in the derby. It is highly encouraged that you stay during the entire session even after your song has been derbied - you can learn a lot by listening to what industry says about other people's music as well - and often it seems less harsh to hear that other people receive criticism and praise for their music as well.
Demo Derby can be a valuable and useful tool in honing your craft as a songwriter and a musician. Be sure to sign up early each day for the derby, we try to get to as many songs as possible during the session.
